You must divide tasks and choose who wants to complete the presentation roles. There are AT LEAST TWO presentation roles - Ptolemy Jr and the Pope. You can read about what they must present below. BEFORE the end of the meeting on preparation day, students must have agreed to WHO will be presenting in character AND inform the instructor.
Rules of Play:
1) If multiple students wish to present, you can double/triple up and do a collaborative presentation. Just remember that you are ALL representing the SAME CHARACTER.
2) Students who are unable to present (i.e. the College of Cardinals) but still wish to earn full credit will need to be VERY ACTIVE participants. This means CHEERING ON your team, providing them with material for their presentations, BOOING the opposing council and, MOST IMPORTANTLY, questioning the OPPOSITION. The WORSE you make the OTHER team look, the BETTER your team does!
3) Remember that you ARE your ROLE. The more you get into the spirit of this, the more fun it will be. Choose costumes that are period-appropriate!
4) Game roles are described below.
5) EVERY student should fill out and submit the pre-trial Google Form BEFORE gameplay commences.
Claudius Ptolemy Jr. (presenter)
You must present the SCIENTIFIC CASE for a geocentric (Earth-centered Universe).
You should design a GOOGLE SLIDES or other type of presentation in order to teach the unwashed masses that Earth is the center of everything. In your presentation you should discuss the main ideas of Ptolemy (your great, great, great, great, great, great, … grandfather).
Your talk should include Earth as the middle of everything and should explain the concept of epicycles and deferents.
Furthermore, guys like Ptolemy and Aristotle are the greatest thinkers of history. In fact, Aristotle figured out that heavy objects fall faster. You can demonstrate this by dropping a heavy and light object. Prove Aristotle’s ideas on falling objects make scientific sense, and therefore his contemporary’s (Ptolemy’s) ideas make sense as well.

Pope E. Lepew (presenter) –
You should make a presentation that maintains that the classical views of Greek scientists are correct, in particular Aristotle and Ptolemy. Science has been well established since Greek times and as Pope you’re pretty well read and understand this kind of thing. The unwashed masses that can’t read can’t possibly comprehend what you know and should accept what you say as fact.
In your presentation, you should point out that science has said that Earth is the middle of everything for over 1 thousand years. Also point out that the heaven’s are where God lives. The sky is unchanging and constant. The location of stars and planets in the sky are constant and are well explained by Ptolemy’s theory. God created the Earth therefore it makes sense for Earth to be the middle of everything. You must present the church’s view and provide copious biblical passages as found in the following web resource for evidence of your position.

The College of Cardinals (supporters) - You must push the church’s view, that the
Earth is the center of everything. This makes sense from a religious perspective and any genuine argument otherwise is heresy. If any group presents something that disagrees with this church-sanctioned, geocentric view, you should be rowdy and make some noise up in this hizouse! Boo and hiss at classmates that present heresy!
This is a minimal effort role, so you will receive a minimal grade (“C”) for choosing it. You can turn this “C” into an “A” by questioning the other faction's representatives AND helping your faction present their case well.
