The primary objective of program review is to enhance academic excellence by evaluating the quality of academic programs. This involves gathering evidence on program strengths and weaknesses, reflecting on the current state and future direction of programs, and providing feedback through peer and administrative review.
The insights gained from program review are important for making informed decisions regarding curriculum, instruction, and budgets. A knowledgeable, dedicated faculty and staff are essential for program review to yield meaningful improvements. The collaborative efforts of faculty and administrators in program review led to upgrades that benefit students, such as improved facilities and updated curricula that keep programs rigorous. The review process also informs college policy and resource allocation. Ultimately, high-quality graduates who are well-prepared for the workplace result from periodic program evaluation and continuous improvement.
In summary, the program review process relies on faculty-administration cooperation to systematically assess academic programs. This allows data-driven decision-making to enhance student learning and program outcomes. Periodic program review serves an important advisory role in maintaining educational excellence.

Semester Snapshot template
The Semester Snapshot captures valuable information and notable items each semester that will aid in completing the Program Review document. At the conclusion of each semester, faculty will complete the Semester Snapshot activity within their faculty teams. Successes, challenges, progress towards goals, and other notable items are recorded. We move quickly at WSU Tech, so capturing evidence of our successes and challenges can be…. well, challenging!
Prompts to consider,
Any changes in classroom, lab, technology, software, and/or equipment?Â
Any changes in curriculum or course offerings?
Did any faculty attend/present at conferences, webinars, etc.?
Any changes in Assessment…new assessment? Tried a new instructional strategy?
Any courses undergoing course redesign?
Applied Learning student opportunities?
IAT recommendations?
Program Directors/Department Chairs collaborate with faculty in reviewing the various information and data sources provided by the Institutional Effectiveness department and the Director of Assessment to determine responses to the program review prompts and what additional evidence may be needed to substantiate the narrative responses.Â
The Program Director/Department Chair submits each part of the review to the Director of Assessment via the LMS for general feedback on each component.Â
Recommendations from the Dean and Vice President are provided during timely checkpoint discussions. The process culminates in a SWOT Showcase in which a program analysis and goals are shared with academic leadership and divisional faculty.
Preview the timeline, process, and template.
Pre-Activity: SWOT analysis brainstorming with colleagues
Accreditation status, if applicable.
Ensure that the program information on WSU Tech's outward facing website is accurate and matches the information in WIDS (i.e. Program & course descriptions, Degree pathways, etc.).Â

Follow-up report & meeting will occur after the showcase. Any remaining revisions and/or action items will be addressed during the final meeting.
Program faculty are provided feedback throughout the program review process. Feedback is provided by the Director of Assessment in the LMS using a simple rubric evaluating evidence-based responses in Parts A, B, C, and D. The academic Dean provides completeness and accuracy feedback during a "checkpoint" meeting reviewing Parts A, B, and C and discusses data sets to be analyzed for Part D. The academic Vice-President meets with both the Dean and Program Director/Department Chair to discuss Parts A, B, C, and D. The Director of Assessment, Vice-President of Instructional Academic Support, academic Vice-President, and faculty peers provide final feedback following the SWOT Showcase.
