DISABLE AUTOMATIC UPDATES to prevent machine restart during the provision of services for AS VRI.

GREETING CLIENT

Your introduction should be performed exactly as it is for an onsite job. Example: "Good (morning, afternoon), I will be your ASL interpreter today, my name is Angie and my interpreter number is 55555. Please remember to speak slowly and directly to the patient, and I will sign everything you say. Please go ahead".

It's important to do your best to avoid being intrusive, but you should be able to hear everyone and have time to process the information. If you can't, simply ask politely for the party to slow down or repeat.

COMPLETING THE CALL

When the client is ready to disconnect, be sure the Deaf/HH client is aware and ask if there are any questions before interpreter disconnects. Thank the client for their patronage and disconnect the call.

It is important to remember that as the interpreter, you are in control of communication so if you need someone to stop or slow down, ask! For example, "the interpreter is having trouble hearing, will the doctor please step closer to the microphone?".
