Physical Research Laboratory (PRL) is a premier national research institution under the aegis of the Department of Space, Government of India. Founded in 1947 by Dr. Vikram A. Sarabhai, PRL is known as the "Cradle of Space Sciences" in India. PRL is located in the western part of Ahmedabad known as "Navrangpura". Many other premier Academic Institutions such as Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Ahmedabad Management Association (AMA), Space Applications Centre (SAC), Sardar Patel Institute of Public Administration (SPIPA), Ahmedabad Textile Industrial Research Association (ATIRA) and Gujarat University are also located in this region.
PRL has an auditorium (K.R. Ramanathan Auditorium) with a capacity to accommodate around 300 participants. The auditorium is equipped with the state-of-the-art audio-visual presentation facilities.
Getting Here
The Ahmedabad Airport is about 15 km away from PRL. Pre-paid taxis are available at the airport. PRL is situated at a distance of about 8 km from Ahmedabad Railway Station (Kalupur). Journey betwen the Kalupur Railway Station and PRL by a three-wheeler (auto rickshaw) / cabs / local buses may take about an hour. The bus stand known as Kalupur Bus Stand is opposite the Railway Station. The best landmark for reaching PRL is the Gujarat University Tower, which is adjacent to PRL.
