Hello, My name is Ashton Wysokinski. I have interests in both civil engineering and aerospace engineering. Growing up I was fascinated by sports complexes at the professional and collegient level and with engineering feats of space. The newly installed Maryland University athletic center intrested me. I was able to see the building in construction when I was younger. The idea of multiple rehab centers, weight rooms, yoga rooms, medical rooms, and film rooms for sports teams all in the same building is very cool to me. Other complexes include Oregon's underground track. This facility has an all underground full 800 meter track with a wide variety of rooms and rehabilitation for athletes. I also grew up watching and playing baseball. Seeing MLB stadiums with underground batting cages and trainer rooms also grabbed my attention.
I caught an early attraction to aerospace engineering as a kid too. The ability to move massive rockets from the launch pad to the hangar is an amazing feat to me. I was also fascinated by how we were able to send people in and out of Earth's atmosphere. All throughout middle school I would be knee deep in watching videos on how NASA engineered and put these rovers on other planets along with how NASA rockets work and how they move them from hanger to launch pad. The amount of work that goes into the interior of NASA rockets is also very technical.
When I grow up I want to help make and design athletic complexes and possibly get involved with aerospace engineering. My dream job would be to work with NASA or in the Air force. I decided I wanted to start my engineering job seriously when I was in middle school. My sister was enrolled in the tech center but was taking another class. I started to look further into the Tech Center and saw they offer engineering classes. This is when I decided I really wanted to take the first step into becoming an engineer.
Some classes that will help me down my path of engineering include biology, chemistry, math (ap and pre-ap). I also help the freshman at our high school by being a Freshman Mentor. In that role I help incoming freshmen for their high school journey. Freshman mentoring has introduced me to a diffrent viewpoint of teamwork. I work along with other mentors where we all gather and discuss what we can do to make these sessions better. We problem solve and try to improve the quality of our sessions with freshmen. We are constantly asking our students for feedback on what we can do better. Creativity is also needed because we are making engaging games for the freshman to play with us.
I am a varsity captain football player at Leonardtown. Football has introduced me to all kinds of people, from every neighborhood to every financial situation. When we are on the field we put everything aside and just have fun. Lots of teamwork is present when playing football. I was also the MVP of the Varsity football team 2023 season and named all conference. I have also been recognized as one of the top players for my position in the DC/Maryland area. I continue to look to play football at the colegiete level.
I used to work at a local horse farm. This job has taught me great listening skills. We take animals in and examine them. We make sure nothing is wrong with them. From a small welt to an obvious leg injury, we need to make sure we know when something is wrong. Work ethic is also very important. I am there to get the job done without having any distractions.
When I graduate I plan on going to a university on a sports or academic scholarship. Depending on the money offered another possible plan would be to go to a community college to get some simple classes out of the way. The total cost of college would be brought down, then I would look at universities and attend one to take more complex classes that my community college didn't offer. After college I plan on entering the workforce as an engineer.
