The ASHRAE Portugal Chapter, in partnership with APIRAC and the Climatization and Refrigeration Committee of the Portuguese Engineers Association (Ordem dos Engenheiros), is pleased to support the International Conference “World Ventilation Day and the Effective Integration between Indoor Air Quality and Energy Efficiency in Buildings”, taking place on 12 November 2026 at the SANA Malhoa Hotel in Lisbon.
Organised in celebration of World Ventilation Day 2026, the conference will bring together national and international experts, industry leaders and institutional representatives to discuss the increasingly important relationship between Indoor Air Quality (IAQ), ventilation, energy efficiency, health and sustainability in buildings.
A special highlight of this year’s conference will be the participation of Bill McQuade, 2025–26 ASHRAE Past-President, bringing an international ASHRAE perspective to the discussion on healthy, energy-efficient and sustainable buildings.
The programme will address key topics including indoor air quality after the COVID-19 pandemic, continuous IAQ monitoring, natural and mechanical ventilation systems, the relationship between IAQ and occupant health and productivity, and the effective integration of ventilation and energy efficiency in buildings.
The event will also provide an important platform for dialogue on the evolving European regulatory framework and the challenges associated with delivering buildings that are simultaneously healthy, comfortable, energy-efficient and low-carbon.

The ASHRAE Annual Conference in Austin brought together global leaders to discuss AI, decarbonization, HVAC&R innovation and the future of buildings.
New ASHRAE President Sarah E. Maston introduced her theme, “Changing the Game: Retrofitting for Resilience.”
The conference offered valuable opportunities for collaboration, knowledge-sharing and advancing a more efficient, healthy and resilient built environment.
On June 8, the ASHRAE Portugal Chapter will have the honor of welcoming to Portugal the President of ASHRAE, Bill McQuade, for an institutional visit dedicated to the theme “Healthy Buildings: Designing for Life” — a vision that places healthy, sustainable, and people-centered buildings at the core of the future of the HVAC&R industry.
The visit program includes a series of institutional and technical meetings with key organizations from the Portuguese energy and HVAC&R sectors.
The visit will begin at ADENE, where the ASHRAE President will be welcomed by Nelson Lage, President of ADENE, for a meeting focused on the challenges of the energy transition, building decarbonization, and the role of energy certification within the European context.
This will be followed by a technical visit to the facilities of LMSA, providing an opportunity for direct contact with technologies and solutions developed within the Portuguese HVAC&R industry.
During the afternoon, a series of thematic roundtable discussions will take place, promoting dialogue among different stakeholders from across the sector:
Professional associations;
Governmental and institutional entities;
Sponsors and industry partners;
HVAC&R designers and consulting engineers.
These sessions aim to encourage the exchange of perspectives on the major challenges currently facing healthy buildings, energy efficiency, indoor environmental quality, and the decarbonization of the built environment.
The visit will conclude with an institutional dinner, during which Bill McQuade will deliver a keynote address under the theme “Healthy Buildings: Designing for Life”, reflecting on the role of the HVAC&R industry in creating healthier, more resilient, and future-ready buildings.
This visit represents a unique opportunity to strengthen the connection between Portugal and the international ASHRAE community, fostering technical and institutional exchange among professionals, associations, and organizations within the sector.
