Welcome to Block in Time
Block in Time is a unique app that helps manage screen time. It is specifically designed for people like me who struggle with ADHD and self-regulation. Like many others, I found that traditional schedule-based app blockers didn’t work for me. I’d often forget to turn them off the night before a holiday. So, I decided to build a solution that would work for me, and hopefully for others, too.
How It Works
Block in Time takes a completely different approach to app blocking. Instead of relying on a schedule, you choose how long you want to play on your iPhone (15, 30, or 45 minutes, or block apps now). Once that time is up, the apps you chose are blocked automatically.
Why It’s Different
The key difference with Block in Time is that your break time is first! Also, the app helps combat time blindness. It is common for people with ADHD to tell themself or others that they are going to do something enjoyable for 30 minutes only to realize at some point that it has been 6 hours! When your apps are blocked after the time you set, you start to learn what 30 minutes feels like.
As someone with ADHD, I know firsthand how easy it is to keep restarting timers or ignoring notifications. That’s why I built a system that prevents you from bypassing the time limits. The apps are blocked once the timer goes off—no more excuses! You may, however, choose to stop blocking early, but you'll have to wait 15 minutes!
This app helps people like me with ADHD break the cycle of distraction and get things done. It’s designed to be simple but effective. You play/scroll/post, you block distracting apps on your phone, and you get things done. No more lost days to your phone!
A Solution for Families
Block in Time is helpful for kids, teens, and adults who need help managing their screen time. Whether it’s homework, chores, or work, this app allows users to control their distractions and reduce stress around staying on task. It’s also a great way to minimize constant reminders or battles with kids (and significant others) about time limits. Parents can monitor the time by viewing the countdown feature, helping children and teens learn how to manage their time independently.
For Those Who Need Help Getting Started
Starting is often the hardest part, especially for people with ADHD. Block in Time helps take the mental load out of decision-making. You decide how long you’ll play, and then it’s up to the app to enforce the limits. There’s no "I’ll just do it later" or "I’ll restart the timer"—it just works.
A Little Extra About Me
My willpower is so bad that I also had to create a time-based blocker on my Mac that only lets me code for a specified amount of time. I even had to remove the ability to quit the blocking app. I definitely took way too long creating an app to help me stop playing on my phone!
Such is the life of someone who enjoys having ADHD. New projects (e.g., learning to code) are fun!
