This installation is inspired by the passage of Hurricane Maria on the island of Puerto Rico on September 20, 2017. Puerto Rico was devastated. The death toll from the event was 4,645 lives, and it is said that it can reach 12,000. This event added more difficulties to the current crisis that is experienced on the island. The dress represents the organized chaos that Puerto Ricans live in. The pockets (the violet part of the dress) represent the fury of the wind and the economic crisis. White represents the beloved, unique island that Puerto Rico will ever be. The blue in the neck represents the amount of water that flooded our streets, but also reflects the current situation, the country is up to its neck with its crisis and all the repercussions that bring being a Colony of the United States.
