Black hole spin down via cosmic strings

Cosmic strings  can extract energy and angular momentum from spinning black holes. We study the effect on primordial black holes, which are expected to form in the early universe with one or more cosmic strings attached.  Although large primordial black holes are predicted to rapidly spin up due to accretion, we argue that cosmic strings will spin them down again.

Holographic Buckyballs

We use holographic duality to show that gauge fields in flat space coupled to matter fields on a spherical defect admit defect-localized renormalisation group (RG) flows to superconformal line operators in the infra-red (IR).
