Education 2.0 : Upgrading education to the digital era. (working paper)

Teaching and learning should involve Agreements, discussions and even disagreements to create knowledge not just passively receive and transmit it.

Price of education should at least cover costs from students, with subsidies to needy sections. Subsidies would be less as one goes higher up the education ladder. Same money can be used to fund better quality lower education which probably has to take place in classrooms except in rare circumstances.

Regular traditional education versus distance education: Both useful, probably traditional education might be better. More research studies are necessary. Best is to give choice to the individual student to pick the type of education based on the learning style and preference..

Use of technology is good and necessary. Anyway most are using it in daily life.

Objective-subjective-errors

Agree- discuss- disagree

Even objective "things are open to updation and upgradation. E.g newton's laws were replaced by Einstein’s. earth centric systems models were replaced by sun centred models. And so on.

Exams: variety of exams can be conducted , need for standardization as exams scores counted for admission to schools and for jobs, at least government jobs.

Language: ideally home language and school medium of instruction should be the same. But it is very difficult to achieve that in practice for all children in regular schools. Online education can be a viable option.

Homeschooling and Unschooling/Deschooling might miss out on the social aspects that children experience in life in schools .

Lifelong learning and education: an be facilitated by giving potential students a choice of mobile learning.

The Internet is a great tool and we should research how we can use it to educate ourselves and others. It should facilitate lifelong learning and education. Perhaps even exams can be conducted remotely, proctored and supervised through the net.

Proposal of internet learning webs: would require efforts and labour on a large scale to create, maintain and upgrade continuously.

Skills Exchange - A database of people willing to list their skills and the basis on which they would be prepared to share or swap them with others.( use of social networks)

Peer-Matching - A network helping people to communicate their learning activities and aims in order to find similar learners who may wish to collaborate.(use of artificial intelligence)

Use of AI, social network, personalized learning and feedback based on the same. Open educational resources are a great help to both students and teachers.

About teaching and learning, both teachers and students should be allowed to express their views, doubts, questions and disagreements in class ( peacefully) . "May the best ideas win" policy should be adopted for the classroom.

Most importantly:

Education is also about values at an individual level and a social level . The shoulds and should nots go hand in hand with the valuable scientific knowledge theories and practices that are taught in the education systems.
