UNCLOS & THE OCEAN REGIME COMPLEX

Overview of the international legal and institutional frameworks that are relevant to the protection of the marine environment and the management of marine resources and form the global ocean governance complex centered on UNCLOS. The applicability of these legal instruments and institutional mechanisms to ASEAN MS is examined. Issue-specific chapters refer to these to link them with instruments, documents, bodies and processes at play within ASEAN, in the context of the topic they each cover. Specific interplays and cooperation mechanisms of instruments and mechanisms that are external to ASEAN with ASEAN institutions and processes are also discussed in issue-specific chapters.
