Though we may have returned from this trip holding the same core values near to us, this trip clarified what it is that those value mean to us. These are four of our values that we feel this trip has shifted our perspective on.
I never really thought about hardwork and dedication. I had thought you use hardwork in your school work and sometimes in your job if you are dedicated to it. But on the trip to Denver I was able to clarify and define these beliefs. On the trip, we met Bobby who was a world class cook, but became a worker at The Denver Rescue Mission, he was dedicated to helping the homeless population find work and jobs. This type of work is selfless and called being an active citizen in ones community. Now it is time to take the next step to helping our community of Iowa City. I know that I can help my fellow community members now by utlizing these traits to really make a difference in others lives.
Passion is important when working with nonprofits because the people who work with them do it because they're passionate. They don't do it to try to brag about how great their lives are but because they genuinerly care about the causes they're working towards.
