Denver, Colorado

A group of 14 students and 3 leaders took a trip to Denver, CO through the University of Iowa's Alternative Spring Break Program in order to tackle the issue of homelessness. We visited three service locations: the Denver Rescue Mission, the Food Bank of the Rockies, and Habitat for Humanity and preformed tasks ranging from packaging food to planning meals for shelters, to painting shelves in order to brighten up the storefront environment. Along with our service, we were able to explore Denver's culture and community through trips to the Denver Art Museum, Red Rocks Amphitheater, a Nuggets vs. Lakers game, exploring downtown Denver, and touring Denver's capital building and learning more about their governmental processes.
