Dramaturgy

First of all, what even is dramaturgy? Dramaturgy can best be defined as an exploration of the world of the play—both the text itself and how the text engages with the world in which we live. Working in theaters and playwrights' organizations, in schools, and on a project-by-project basis, dramaturges contextualize the world of a play; create connections among the text, actors, and audience; offer opportunities for playwrights; generate projects and programs; and establish conversations about plays in their communities.

In our production, each actor chose a specific topic regarding the play that interested them. Then, they worked as their own dramaturges to research the theme/idea and present their findings in ways unique to them. In the following pages you can explore different images, essays, and videos created by the As You Like It cast in an attempt to help the audience better understand the world of the play as well as their own takes on this renowned piece of literature.
