Biography

Dr. Aryan Kaushik is Assistant Professor at the University of Sussex, UK, associated with the School of Engineering and Informatics, since 2021, where he also serves as the Recruitment and Admissions Tutor, and Academic Advisor for Engineering students. Prior to that, he has been a Research Fellow at the University College London, UK, with the Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering, from 2020-21. He completed his PhD degree in Communications Engineering at the School of Engineering, University of Edinburgh, UK, in 2019. He received his MSc degree in Telecommunications from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Hong Kong, in 2015. He has held visiting professor/researcher appointments at the Imperial College London, UK, from 2019-20, University of Bologna, Italy, in 2024, University of Luxembourg, Luxembourg in 2018, Athena Research and Innovation Center, Greece, in 2021, and Beihang University, China, from 2017-19, 2022. He has been also involved in PhD Thesis Evaluation Committee internationally such as at the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (UC3M), Spain, in 2023. 

He has been an Invited Panel Member for the UK EPSRC Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) Prioritisation Panel in 2023, and as EPSRC Proposals Reviewer since 2023. His research interests include signal processing for 5G/6G wireless communications, integrated sensing and communications, reconfigurable holographic and intelligent surfaces, energy efficient communication systems, non-terrestrial networks (satellite and UAV Communications), millimeter wave massive MIMO, and machine learning, edge computing and AI-assisted communications. He has been involved as PI in three of the UKRI HEIF funded projects on AI and Holographic Surfaces assisted Integrated Sensing and Communications, Net Zero and Sustainable 6G, and Green and Autonomous UAVs, Sussex-ROF funded project on Integrated Sensing and Communications, research lead in the UK DSTL, DASA and EPSRC funded projects on integrated sensing and communications including the UK-wide UDRC consortium, and many other collaborative projects globally. He has been awarded with the Best Editor Award 2023 at the IEEE Open Journal of the Communications Society, and Exemplary Editor Award 2023 at the IEEE Communications Letters. He has been serving as Member-at-Large of the IEEE Communications Society On-Line Content Board from 2024-25. He has been an Award Nominee for the Teaching to Disrupt Award and Inclusive Sussex Award at the Sussex Education Awards 2024. He has been also associated as member of the One6G Association, a consortium of global industry and academic working groups on 6G.

He is Editor of three upcoming books on “Integrated Sensing and Communications for Future Wireless Networks: Principles, Advances and Key Enabling Technologies”, "Non-Terrestrial Networks: Paving the way towards Global Connectivity", and "Electromagnetic Signal and Information Theory: From Synergizing Two Realms to Evolution of Next Generation Communications", to be published by Elsevier. He has been serving as Senior Editor of the IEEE Communications Technology News since 2023 (initiated the IEEE CTN Video Podcast Series), and Editor of the IEEE Internet of Things Magazine since 2024 (including the Miniseries on AI for IoT), IEEE Open Journal of the Communications Society since 2022, IEEE Communications Letters since 2022, IET Signal Processing from 2022-24, and IET Networks from 2022-23. He has been the Lead (or Co-Lead) Guest Editor for Special Issues on "Unveiling the Cosmic Connection: AI's Pivotal Role in Bridging Terrestrial and Non-Terrestrial Networks" in IEEE Wireless Communications Magazine (2024-25), "Integrated Terrestrial and Non-Terrestrial Networks" in IEEE Communications Standards Magazine (2024-25), "Multi-Function Reconfigurable Intelligent and Holographic Surfaces for 6G Networks" in IEEE Network Magazine (2024), "Technical Advancements in NTN-Assisted Internet-of-Things: Global Connectivity from Sky" in IEEE Internet of Things Magazine (2023-24), "Reconfigurable Holographic MIMO Surfaces for 6G Wireless" in IEEE Open Journal of the Communications Society (2022-23), and "Signal Processing for Green and Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces-Aided 6G" in IET Signal Processing (2022-23)

He has delivered over 60 Keynote/Invited and Tutorial speeches at several international conferences and academic/industrial events worldwide. He has been a Tutorial Speaker at IEEE ICC 2024, IEEE GLOBECOM 2024, IEEE VTC-Spring 2024 (two tutorials), IEEE ICMLCN 2024, IEEE MeditCom 2023-24, IEEE GLOBECOM 2023, IEEE WCNC 2023, EuCNC and 6G Summit 2023, IEEE BlackSeaCom 2023, and IEEE SmartGridComm 2023. Also he has been an Invited Panel Speaker at IEEE ICC 2024, IEEE MeditCom 2024, IEEE VTC-Spring 2023, EuCNC and 6G Summit 2023, IEEE BlackSeaCom 2023, IEEE ICC 2024 Workshop, IEEE GLOBECOM 2023 Workshop and IEEE PIMRC 2023 Workshop, plus Keynote/Invited Speaker at One6G Summit 2023, One6G 6G-Robo Seminar, IEEE ICC 2024 Workshop, IEEE WCNC 2023 Workshop, IEEE WF-PST 2024, IEEE ANTS 2023 Workshop, ICASIS 2023, WiSPNET 2023, FutureWei USA University Days Workshop 2023-24, Huawei UK Vision Forum 2023, and many other venues globally.

He has been serving as Special Sessions Chair at IEEE ICMLCN 2024, Publication Chair at IEEE WCNC 2024 and IEEE ICMLCN 2024, Panel Chair and Travel Grant Chair at IEEE BlackSeaCom 2024, and Tutorial Chair at IEEE WF-PST 2024. He has been serving as General Chair for over 16 workshops at IEEE ComSoc international conferences such as at IEEE ICC 2024 (three workshops), IEEE GLOBECOM 2024, IEEE WCNC 2024 (three workshops), IEEE PIMRC 2022-24, IEEE MECOM 2024, IEEE GLOBECOM 2023 (two workshops), IEEE WCNC 2023 (two workshops), IEEE MeditCom 2023, IEEE CAMAD 2023, and IEEE SECON 2022.
