Abstract: (click to expand)
A song is made not only through writing, composing and performing, but also in the act of listening. At this workshop, with musicians and listeners, we will begin by listening to a song, and break it down into its parts to understand the processes that went into its making. We will think about our varied listenings to the song--as individuals, as social and political beings and as communities. We will also think about what songs we like to collect and keep, and what is handed down to us, leading to questions of why and how we build archives.
Participants who play music are encouraged to bring in their own songs; those who don't, should bring their keen ears.
