Title: Weathered and Remembered
Town: Hyattsville, MD
District:
Bio: Audrey Epp Schmidt is the artist behind Sweet Potomac Studio. Audrey splits her time between Hyattsville, Maryland & Seneca Rocks, West Virginia, where she runs Sweet Potomac Farm with her husband. Audrey’s work is inspired by playfulness and nature - and one of the best parts of creating art is the mindful meditation of collecting new material directly from the natural environment. Audrey has previously held positions at The Nature Conservancy, Chesapeake Bay Foundation, and Johns Hopkins University.
Audrey is a proud member of the Red Dirt Studio community in Mt. Rainier, Maryland.
Medium: Wood, Glass, Preserved Florals
Artwork Description: Through minimal composition and natural materials, 'Weathered and Remembered' invites viewers to pause, observe, and consider the quiet relationships that exist between objects, environments, and the passage of time. The hollowed form of the weathered wood, shaped by time, decay, and resilience, becomes a vessel of memory—a record of what has passed through it and what has remained. Its organic cavity suggests both shelter and absence, a space once inhabited and now left open to interpretation.

Town: Baltimore, MD

Bio: One of Make Studio’s first artists, Bess resides in Lutherville, MD. She often says she’s been making art “all my life!” She especially enjoys costume and set design, Japanese anime, and gothic and magical themes, which predominate her subject matter. She values her open-minded nature. One of her on-going concerns is that individuals are too often prejudged by others on their appearance or other preconceived notions. Recent exhibitions include "Logical Progression," at Montpellier Art Center (Laurel, MD) and "Her Vision, Her Voice," a reprise of Chesapeake Arts Center's exhibition in honor of Women's History Month (Brooklyn Park, MD).
Medium: Mixed Media
Artwork Description: My art is most inspired by anime and video games. Lots of anime shows express things that we need to talk about; anime can really open some doors and helps me find ways to express things that I want to talk about. Many of my art images are autobiographical and immersive, relating to my cosplay and the media I love most.

She recently has been working on a year long project of coordinating painted patterns in a small book. Mary expresses her feelings through her art and has a peaceful, methodical approach to her work.
Medium: Acrylic on Watercolor paper using stamping, stenciling and a brayer
Artwork Description: When I made this piece, I had a lot on my mind about decisions I wanted to make going forward. I felt like my life had been going this way, and I was ready to make a turn and go this way. A different way. I looked at photographs of wild animals and I chose the one that I was drawn to. I then used stamps made of cardboard and bubble wrap that gave the feeling of the patterns on the animal skins. Then I looked at slides of some inspirational sayings that paired with the animals and chose my favorite. I wrote the saying in my journal and then painted it over the patterned paper. I chose pink because I like bright, hopeful colors and I think the gold went really well with it. When I added the white dots to the letters with a paint pen, it really made them pop!

So I used smaller pieces of the work with hole punches in it to string them onto yarn. Then I used hot glue to attach them to the first piece. Title: Haitian Wedding Day
Town: Crownsville, MD
District: 33
Bio: Nina De Angelo was an Invisible Disabilities Advocate who battled a progressive genetic disease called Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome. She was a junior at Catholic University when she died.
Nina lived with chronic pain and “invisible” disabilities her entire life, and she became a fierce advocate for people with invisible illnesses.
Nina loved combining art and advocacy. She exhibited in the Artists Without Limits Exhibit–showcasing Anne Arundel County artists with disabilities—four times. For all she did to promote understanding, acceptance, and inclusion for people with disabilities, this exhibit was recently renamed to The Nina De Angelo Artists Without Limits Exhibit.
Medium: Acrylic on Canvas
Artwork Description: Nina created "Haitian Wedding Day" when she was only 11 years old and still had use of her hands. At this young age, Nina was already struggling with chronic pain, and her greatest wish was to be pain-free and “normal” like other kids her age. When she reflected on this piece a few years later, Nina said:
“I love art because it gives me a voice. It’s hard being different from other kids my age and not being able to do the things they can do. It’s very lonely and isolating. I want the same things that other people do—to be loved, seen, and included. This painting expresses my desire for a normal life.
Despite my disabilities, there are still things I can do to make my voice heard—like creating art. Art is empowering, art is for everyone, and art is a reminder that the world shouldn’t place limits on persons with disabilities.”
