Aubres Artist Bio
I have always lived in between two worlds, each one foreign to the other. The first and most commonly known is the physical and practical realm, built on linear processes and equations; everything has to have a scientific reasoning, purpose, and job. The other is filled with painted dreams, shapeshifting landscapes, and stories with no beginning or end, riddled, contradictory, and seemingly nonsensical. Since childhood, my dreams have always been vivid, elaborate, and lucid. Face-to-face, each night with my bizarre imagination, a little Alice in her own personalized Wonderland. When I would wake, I found it difficult to explain what I saw; I felt there were no English words to describe or truly scratch the feeling I was trying to convey, so I wouldn’t say anything at all. I would paint, attempting to capture even a small glimpse of that place, not knowing I would create something entirely my own.
Over the years, I have been perfecting the art of conscious dreaming, extracting messages, symbols, and inspiration from myself in a more relaxed and receptive state. I study each dream so I can carry its memory with me to the other side, bringing back impressionistic sketches, which I then use physical materials to manifest into something visible and tangible.
I work mainly with paints, oil pastels, collage, inks, design, photography, and mixed media. With experience in set design for feature films, directing art shows, photography, styling, and modeling, I enjoy the process of layering different media, experimenting with mixing worlds, and finding the crossroads in between.
