This week, I'd like us to focus on practicing gratitude. I know there is a lot going on in the world with all the current health issues and COVID-19. We are seeing perhaps the biggest crisis of our lives so far and our first ever experience with lock-downs, isolations and closing of schools and public places.
All of us, however, have things we can be grateful for. Practicing gratitude is a very healthy habit, and one I encourage you to do daily. Having something like a gratitude jar where you are reminded to add to it whenever you see it, is a great way to develop the habit.
Making your own gratitude jar can be a relaxing and fun activity, and I encourage you to get your family involved and see if you can make them together. Having more people reminding you to practice gratitude can help everyone in your house feel more peaceful and happy.
1. You will need to find something that could be used to collect items. Make sure your parents say it is okay to use if you aren’t sure.
2. Ideas: large mason jar, shoe box, tissue box, granola bar box, clean recycled container. Please be green-minded with this activity and re-purpose something you already have at your house. (I found a teapot I never use.)
3. Decorate your jar with supplies you have at home, and again, can you reuse or re-purpose things you already have? Ideas: tissue paper, gift wrap, magazine pages, newspapers, old sketchbook pages, stickers, etc. (I painted flowers, then once dry, cut them out and taped them to my teapot.)
4. Write "Today, I'm thankful for..." or "Today, I'm grateful for..." on small pieces of paper. Fill it in with what you are thankful for today, fold it, and add it to your jar. Try to add something everyday!
5. Take a picture and post on Seesaw.
