Printmaking – Linocut
Class Description
In this fun and interactive five-day workshop, we will explore relief printmaking through the versatile and effective medium of linocut. Linoleum is easy to carve and print. We will explore various ways of building up colour within the works with the main course outcome being for you to produce your own limited edition multicoloured print using the reduction method.
A strong focus will be on your own personal development of imagery and creative mark-making processes.
Aspects of image development, composition and how to create depth within your work, image transferal, carving the block, ink handling and rolling techniques, registration procedures including the use of Ternes Burton pins to make life easy will be covered. Along with how to print without a without a press at home, sign your work and issues related to general health and safety in the workshop environment.
This workshop is suitable for beginners and those with some printmaking experience.
Materials for participants to bring:
· Imagery and ideas for Artworks 150mm x 200mm and free form stamps
· Drawing materials
· Ruler
Sharp cutting knife or snips for cutting Lino
Woodblock or Lino carving tools if you have them - Tools will be available if you have none
Alternative papers to print and experiment with – optional – paper will be provided
Printing rollers - optional
Light weight gloves for carving if you have sensitive skin, I use SHOWA gardening gloves from Mitre 10

Jo Ogier - Bio
Jo is an MFA graduate from the Otago School of Art and holds a Graduate Diploma in Plant and Wildlife Illustration (NSW Australia), along with a series of scholarships and awards. She has exhibited extensively in New Zealand and in several group shows internationally. Jo has also completed several large-scale commissions for The Otago Museum, The Nelson Provincial Museum and The Department of Conservation.
Her work is primarily concerned with issues of conservation and ecology. Jo currently works full-time on her art and lives in Sumner, Christchurch.
