My name is Sumiyyea Abdul-Rasheed. In 2018, I moved to Arizona from North Carolina. I'm originally from Michigan, but I've moved around a lot my entire life; I spent most of my early childhood years in South Africa, and I also lived in Saudi Arabia in my early adulthood years. Arizona has been a really fun place to live so far, but the summer heat still gets to me.
Three years ago, I got married to my wonderful husband, and in 2021, we had our baby girl, Ni'mah. She's a dynamic little girl who is so active and adventurous. Being a mom has definitely been interesting, but I absolutely love motherhood and watching my daughter grow, learn, move and play!
When I'm not working, doing homework, or attending classes, I enjoy reading pretty much anything I can get my hands on. My other hobbies include playing with my baby, taking nature photos, singing, baking, writing poetry, doing puzzles or puzzle books, knitting, and crocheting.
Professionally, I recently obtained my Associate's degree in Mathematics from Phoenix College and transferred to ASU to pursue a Bachelor's degree in Secondary Education: Mathematics. I love teaching and have been tutoring in a variety of subjects for 8 years. Aside from tutoring in secular studies, I have also been teaching religious studies such as Quran memorization and reading for several years.
I am extremely passionate about teaching, especially in math. I have loved math since I was younger, so when I saw my classmates struggling to understand mathematical concepts, I developed a strong desire to help them. This desire is what led me towards becoming a teacher. I want to help students understand and enjoy math as much as I do and inspire them to be confident in their abilities to reach their goals in math and in life.
