Light House - Arakan Refugee Education Centre - is one of the essential part of ARRC’s education initiatives and serves as a beacon of hope for refugee children who have been denied formal schooling.
Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD) – This initiative has not introduced yet. But ARRC’s plans to equip its teachers/volunteer for this and conduct structured ECCD initiatives. This initiative aims to fosters foundational literacy, numeracy, motor skills, and emotional growth through child-centered methodologies.
Primary-Level Education – Offers a comprehensive curriculum encompassing English, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Arts, and Music, taught by trained refugee educators and volunteers.
Life and Digital Skills – Introduces students to computer literacy, responsible online behavior, emotional intelligence, and problem-solving skills.
Boarding Facilities – Accommodates students from remote or underserved regions, ensuring continuous learning in a safe and nurturing environment.
The education program aim to root its approaches in international education standards and adapted to the Malaysian context, the Lighthouse School hope to prepares students not only for academic success but also for integration, critical thinking, and civic responsibility. But ARRC still has a long way to go.
Refugee Resilience Program
Shelter Assistance: ARRC provides temporary accommodation to individuals in crisis, including new arrivals, unemployed persons, discharged patients, and those awaiting or undergoing medical treatment.
Interpretation Services – ARRC provides interpretation support in Burmese and Arakanese, particularly for medical appointments, legal processes, and interactions with authorities. This ensures accurate communication and supports referrals to specialized services from other organizations.
Mental Health & Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) – This program is not officially announced yet. But ARRC aims to conduct in near future. The program includes individual counseling, trauma care, community mental health workshops, and referrals to professional care, helping reduce stigma and promote emotional resilience.
Youth Affairs Program: This program seeks to cultivate a generation of informed, confident, and capable youth leaders through:
Youth Cohort Development – Identifies and mentors young leaders through peer learning, cultural exchange, social justice advocacy, and structured dialogues.
Vocational and Livelihood Training – Delivers marketable skills training in areas such as tailoring, beauty and wellness, computer applications, and small business management.
Learning Hubs and Resource Centers – Provides inclusive spaces equipped with educational resources, internet access, and mentorship support to foster continual growth.
This holistic approach nurtures youth potential, enabling them to become agents of positive change within the community and beyond.
Refugee Protection Program (Case management & Legal coordination)
ARRC’s Protection Program is a cornerstone of its humanitarian mandate and includes:
Work Rights and Advocacy – aims to mediate workplace disputes in collaboration with relevant partners, and educates refugees about fair labor practices, labor laws, and dispute resolution pathways.
Detention and Legal Support – Liaises with legal aid groups, engage with local authorities, and detention facilities to try to protect the rights of detained refugees and advocate for alternatives to detention.
UNHCR and NGO Referral Mechanism – Implements a timely and confidential referral process for individuals at risk, ensuring appropriate interventions by legal, medical, and protection actors.
Funeral Services – Assists bereaved families with culturally appropriate and respectful funeral arrangements, maintaining dignity in death as in life.
Women Affairs Program
ARRC aims to develop comprehensive Women Affairs programs that focus on women empowerment, promote woemen participation in advocacy works and program-related works. This program strives to create safe, equitable, and empowering spaces through:
Women’s Leadership Training – Encourages women’s participation in governance and community decision-making structures.
Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Awareness and Support – Conducts community education, survivor referral pathways, and access to psychosocial and legal aid.
Economic Empowerment Initiatives – Facilitates income-generating projects, home-based businesses, and skills training in culinary arts, tailoring, and digital marketing.
Peer Support and Dialogue Platforms – Establishes women-led forums for healing, mutual support, and advocacy.
All services under these programs are and will be implemented through regular community-outreach activities to ensure transparency, inclusivity, and active community participation.
