As a preservationist and a planner I’ve been successful in leading many of my project concepts into implementation. That has required me to build and refine a set of skills in project management to see these initiatives through to implementation. I have found that the same core set of skills is critical in any type of project; from feasibility assessment through project design and from plan creation to construction management.
Specific Project Management Skills and Knowledge Areas:
- Leadership (e.g., influencing decision making in the public interest, strategic decision making)
- Managing external relationships (e.g., customer service, client interaction, representing and promoting organizations, relationships with partners, decision makers, boards and commissions, transparency, confidentiality, privacy)
- Internal organizational management (e.g., team building and staff training, project team culture, strategic planning, organizational budgeting and financial management)
