History 393, Digital History Source Laboratory, serves as a semester-long apprenticeship in digital source presentation and contextualization. Students have identified a primary source that exists on the internet, researched the historical context around that source, and presented both in a single website that is publicly accessible and keyword searchable. Along the way, students have learned methods of source analysis, transcription, copyright evaluation, website design, and metadata ascription. History 393 is an ideal course for students considering careers in museums and public history, libraries and archives, or who want to have a polished product to present to future employers.
