Diabetes and Cancer

Diabetes and cancer are the among the top causes of morbidity worldwide. Epidemiological and clinical evidence suggests that diabetic people are at significantly higher risk for many forms of cancer. Many risk factors have been found to be common between Type 2 diabetes and breast cancer, but exact mechanism of association, progression between the two diseases is poorly understood. We are trying to understand this very link between the two diseases. We are looking at plasma cytokine levels of patients, culturing CTCs from blood and tumor samples, studying bioenergetics, drug sensitivity, as well as collecting clinicopathological data from patient records and use AI and ML based approaches to understand the interplay between T2D and breast cancer development and progression.
