Hummingbirds are known to be sacred and that if they appear they symbolize your loved ones who passed away letting you know that they are okay. I learnned this when my Tio Luis passed away. Hummingbirds were consistently present from the day of my Tio's funeral , to my trip to Mexico where my mom shared stories of her childhood wih my tio, and to random moments where I needed a sign that everything will be okay. Therefore, I decided to base my animal attribute on the hummingbird. But in this case I created it beyond the connection I have with my Tio Luis, and also connected it to the people before me to shed light on my ancestors and for the people who fought for social justce. So, I created a hummingbird in front of a sun with various sayings that are usually heard in protests or in revolutions for social justice. This piece symbolizes our past leaders who have fought for social justice or who simply poured love for future generations like my Tio Luis have. The hummingbird is a reminder to the present that we will be okay and to continue to fight for social justice and spread love.
