The European Fencing Confederation was founded on 26th October 1991 in Vienna, Austria. Formerly established under the name “Union Européenne d’Escrime”, the English name became preponderant.
The international body, charged with the promotion and development of fencing in Europe, regroups 46 member countries. It is the continental confederation with the most active members under the authority of the International Fencing Federation (FIE) . With over 4000 FIE-licenses – (almost three times more than any other continental confederation) the EFC counts the most active fencers all over the world.
