During the Spring of 2025 and 2026 I taught Math112 as an adjunct faculty at Cayuga Community College to Cornell Prison Education Program (CPEP) student. CPEP students are pursuing a SUNY Cayuga Community College associates in arts. As part of that degree they take a general education math class, which is currently Math112.  I am again teaching Math112 during the fall of 2026. 

This course is designed to challenge and strengthen student's logical and analytical reasoning skills through the rich and varied landscape of mathematics. We introduce a collection of practical subjects (geometry, probability, and statistics), alongside more advanced topics that explore the philosophical question, “What is mathematics?” (set theory, logic, number representations). Throughout the course, we aim for students to develop a greater confidence with numbers, algebra, and mathematics in situ. 

CPEP classes take place inside correctional facilities. After passing through a metal detector and multiple security checkpoints topped with barbed wire, CPEP instructors walk into a classroom full of students who are eager to learn, willing to make mistakes, and committed to creating a safe and supportive learning environment for one another. It has been a joy and a privilege to challenge these students with mathematics, watch their confidence grow, and be a small part of their journey toward a bright future. 

During Spring of 2025 and 2026 I co-taught with Mark Schachner at Cayuga Correctional Facility.  During the fall of 2026 I will be co-teaching with Marie MacDonald at Auburn Correctional Facility.
