The Izaak Walton League was founded in 1922 to conserve, maintain, protect, and restore soil, air, woods, waters, and wildlife.
The Argos Chapter, also referred to as the Argos Ikes, was formed in 1926. The founders of the Argos Ikes were community leaders committed to environmental stewardship.
The chapter bought its first few acres of property in 1929, and developed a fishing hatchery by building ponds and structures. In 1934, the chapter grounds grew to 17 acres. The New Deal Act allowed chapter members to build a clubhouse and other structures.
