PIOMAS sea ice volume

All images and data below are calculated from the PIOMAS gridded sea ice thickness data provided by the Polar Science Center (Zhang et al.) .

This page is updated monthly, when PIOMAS updates their data files, usually around the 4th day of the month, although sometimes their updates are  delayed.

Update 3 Apr 2026:  PIOMAS data won't be updated anymore until further notice, since the NCEP temperature dataset used by the model has become unavailable. Hopefully they'll find an alternative to revive the model.
