Bent Tree

The Bent Tree is a campus icon.  As the campus opened in 1969, many people took notice of a pine tree with a unique bend in the trunk.  The tree became a notable place for students, faculty, and staff to gather and meet.  So beloved by the campus community, the student newspaper was affectionately named the “Bent Tree” during the early 70s.

When construction began on the University Center building in 2002,  the campus was saddened to learn that the Bent Tree had to be cut down.  A cast of the tree was made to honor the beloved landmark. Today that cast stands near the back entrance of the Baker University Center.
