These are the first pics of getting my El Camino, it was purchased in Moncks Corner, South Carolina by my Uncle Tony for me (I'm in Tennessee). I had been wanting one of these 5th generation body style El Caminos forever, not too mention I have always loved his El Camino, which he still has, since 1972, if my memory serves me correctly. You can see "Lefty" below.
As you can see, how can you not love an El Camino????
Naturally first thoughts were, well, wanted to pee myself (Kidding there). Excitement was high obviously and nothing would make me happier than sitting in her and going for a drive. Keep in mind she did get cleaned up by Uncle Tony so the shock value would be much higher, it had sat for quite sometime and was covered, amazing what a little elbow grease can do even on an Earl "99.99" paint job. (Later this lackluster paint would come back to haunt me). It ran ok, drove great, cockpit was minimal but felt like I was home. Nothing fancy happening inside, really a bare bones interior, did manage to have decent gauges on dash but that's about as far as it went. She didn't have any real power per say, but the transmission shifts and the motor runs, these are always bonuses!!
After some test driving, I decided to drop off the rental I drove down in and would make the 5 1/2 hour drive back home in the cockpit of my El Camino. This drive, would be quite a thrilling ride indeed, more on that later when I have time to actually tell that hairy tale of tires blowing out, firing order all out of whack etc...etc...etc..
