UC San Diego is committed to promoting sustainable, efficient, high-quality buildings on its campus, including its many LEED-certified buildings. To meet the university's green building goals, we aim for this project to attain at least a LEED BD+C Silver certification. Our project is committed to fulfilling many of these goals by integrating several sustainability measures into the building and landscape design, including:

• Promoting non-motorized transportation modes, including pedestrian and bicycle access (which can be enhanced with on-site bicycle storage)

• Optimizing sunlight through strategic placing of windows and access points

• Using plant coverings and building materials that reduce the urban heat island effect

• Preservation of the existing tree canopy in the historic grove

• Permeable pavement in the courtyard and at the northwest entry point

• Safely recycling rainwater and graywater and reducing potable water use

• Promoting water-efficient and drought-tolerant landscaping on the perimeter of the site and the rooftop
