Mrs. Jimenez has been teaching at Long Beach Polytechnic High School, California since 2011. She teaches functional English, Physical Science, and Community-Based Instruction. Born in Nayarit, Mexico, her parents immigrated to California when she was a year old. Proudly of her Mexican roots, she is honored to be a "Nayarita." Following her passion for teaching, she earned her bacherlo's degree in Child Development from California State University of Fullerton. Mrs. Jimenez earned her Masters Degree of Education from the University of Phoenix. She holds both general and special education teaching credential. Witnessing the urgency to helping those in need, while completing her student teaching, she decided to become a teacher for students with moderate-to-severe disabilities. In December 2020, she became a National Board Certified Teacher in Early Childhood through Young Adulthood/Exceptional Needs Specialist. At Poly, she established the first active garden on campus, which promotes inclusion, hands-on experience, and health lessons. Plus, she advises the Poly Garden club. During the pandemic peak, she created a successful outdoor sensory space for mental and sensory needs/breaks. She hosted 3 successful Zumbathons to fundraise the purchase of special education curriculum for her students. Mrs. Jimenez has obtained scholarships to the Museum of Latin American Art and the Aquarium of the Pacific for Community-Based Instruction. She has also served as a member of Poly's School Site Council. She has established a multiple community partnerships including Healthy Active Long Beach, Lakewood Nursery, and La Michoacana Heladeria Tradicional. Mrs. Jimenez embraces Poly's diverse cultures and has spearheaded cultural activities such as: Dia De Los Muertos ofrenda, mariachi performance to celebrate Mexico's Independence Day, and Native-American performance. She is proud to teach at Poly and stands behind the school's mantra: "Go Forth to Serve." She is a lifelong leaner and is always open to implement new ideas, strategies, and programs that can enhance learning at Poly.
