Special Education Mural
"Tree of Life"
-Directed by: Indira C. Jiménez, Special Education Teacher at Long Beach Polytechnic High School
-Prepared by: Enrique Brito, Local Artist and Muralist
Planet Earth is the home of humans and all flora and fauna. The human-being must be the guardian of the planet. However, the industrial economic system has destroyed and polluted the air, rivers and oceans for decades, deforesting jungles and forests, and putting dozens of animal species on the brink of extinction.
While some scientists and millionaires wonder of being able to inhabit other planets like Mars, the destruction of the ecosystem is being ignored, resulting in the crisis of Global Warming. The reality is that it is unknown if other planets could be habitable; however, people's responsibility is to take care of Mother Earth and her ecosystems, as new generations have the right to enjoy and value it.
The objective of the mural "Special Education: Tree of Life" is to generate a collective awareness of the protection of Earth, and all the species that inhabit it, including the students of Poly High School in Long Beach, through of art, highlighting the ethnic cultural diversity of the school community, as well as the respect and inclusion of students with special disabilities. A group of special students will be invited to be part of the talent who will paint a section of the mural.
Tree of Life will be 52 'ft x 14' in size, painted on the exterior of the library wall, and will begin painting in the first week of March 2022. It is planned to be unveiled in the third week of April, as part of the celebration of Earth Day, Friday April 22.
* The preparation of the mural wall will be done by the artist, Enrique Brito, and / or with the help of a maintenance team from Poly High School.
