Infected with a mindflayer's parasitic young and left in a pod to die, Kythreen was doomed. Chance freed her, sent her hurtling through the hells, until, against all odds, she ended up on the side of the Chionthar River. The situation is dire, the prognosis grim, and the only way through the waking nightmare is by working with the rest of the crash survivors to find a cure before they're all lost to their aberrant invaders: mind, body, and apostolic soul.
Surrounded by companions of circumstance and then comrades by choice, there's very little Kythreen won't do to ensure their party's survival. But even a lifetime spent navigating the complicated interplay between Menzoberranzan and the surface world might not be sufficient preparation for the challenges and agonies awaiting her along her journey. There is more in sun and shade than the fear of ceremorphosis, and each step slouching towards Baldur's Gate brings her that much closer to the fateful decisions that will determine the rest of her life.
The party's outlook is bleak at best, and the fragile band is held together by twin bonds of necessity and Kythreen's force of will.
But all's well that ends...
