Work-Based Learning Program
The WBL Program is a unique Class that allows students to apply their classroom learning AND skills in a professional setting and gain real-world experience. Work-Based Learning provides an opportunity for seniors to start preparing for a career while still in high school. Through Work-Based Learning, students are able to earn wages while learning from skilled professionals, increase career options and future employability, strengthen academic skills, experience the connection between education and real-life work skills, credits while in high school and experience potential careers in the workplace.
Students learn what it takes to become young professionals by working with local employers in the capacity of paid positions, internships or apprenticeships.
WBL makes the “real world” connection between school and work!
WBL Students Benefits:
Provide opportunities to explore and give a realistic view of possible career fields.
Establish a career choice before entering post-secondary (college) education.
Help to develop workplace “professionalism” through responsibility, positive attitudes and habits.
Offer opportunities for leadership development.
Allow for interaction with adults in a work-based setting which helps to develop effective communication skills.
Form good skills with managing finances, work ethics and time management.
Earn on the Job Training.
Allow you to leave school early to WORK.
Earn class grade(s) AND 1 full credit for each period enrolled per semester. Example: Enrolled in 3 periods, that's 3 full credits for both 1st and 2nd semesters for a total of 6 credits!
Earn the EVERFI Financial Literacy AND Georgia BEST Certifications.
Basically, you are Learning While You Are EARNING a Grade and Money!
WBL is primarily Applied for and Approved during your Junior Year with Enrollment being for your Senior Year!
Interested students must meet these requirements to apply:
have Good Attitude AND Conduct
have NO Disciplinary Issues (OSS, ISS nor excessive Administrative Detentions)
have Good Attendance AND/OR Tardies (15 or Few Unexcused Absences/Tardies)
have Parental Consent. Yes, mom or dad needs to know that you're interested!
have your Pathway Teacher's Recommendation plus 2 other teachers
have Daily Reliable Transportation to get from school to work
have All Credits and are On Track to Graduate
have Room in your Schedule to Accommodate being Enrolled in 1, 2 OR 3 periods of the WBL class
already have a job OR are Seeking Employment either Paid or an Internship
can “Balance” your Regular Academics WITH the WBL Class AND Work Component
are Responsible, Mature, Respectful and have Integrity
are Approachable and Teachable not just in schools and the WBL class, BUT on a job site

Employment FACT To Know: As of 2015, a Work Permit is NOT required if you are 16 years or older!
