This will be my 26rd year of teaching, and I never fail to be excited about the first day of school, and the possibilities for the coming year. I have taught courses ranging from geography, world history and ethnic studies, to AP world history, AP art history, and AP psychology. Of all the courses I have taught over the years, I believe that world history is where my heart lives.
I did not, however, start out in the world of education. My background is in anthropology, which is the study of human culture and history. I have experience outside of the classroom in archaeology, museum curation and museum collections. I have a bachelor's degree from the University of Georgia, with a major in anthropology, and a master's degree in education from Georgia State University. I have worked at the Museum of Natural History at the University of Georgia, Fernbank Museum of Natural History, and the Michael C. Carlos Museum of Art and Archaeology.
In addition to my academic studies, I am also an artist. Artistic expression and creativity are an important part of who I am. I have sold works in galleries and used my artistic talents towards the creation of my own business as an interior decorator. I am also a writer, and an avid traveler.
As a teacher, I strive to foster positive relationships with my students. I believe that honesty and trust between the teacher and the students are key components of success in the classroom. I believe a student should learn to see the value of their own investment in their work and their personal success. I believe in student encouragement, as well as student accountability.
I am the proud mother of a beautiful young woman who is also a teacher, at the elementary school level. My family is originally from Conyers, where I grew up and worked for many years, but I have lived back and forth between Conyers and Covington for the last 25 years.
I am looking forward to working with you, as students and parents, and knowing you as individuals. Please feel free to contact me with any of your questions or concerns, and understand that I see you first and foremost as people in my community with needs that can be met by cooperation as a team.
