Organic Lab Graph Description

Data from 650 ACS approved institutions show that, for organic chemistry, it was more likely that the material for laboratory courses was delivered face-to-face than for the lecture courses. The trend for smaller institutions to deliver more of the content face-to-face was also evident in this data set (with 56% of the schools with fewer than 2000 students delivering lab content in person). Even at the largest institutions (more than 10,000 students), the data showed that a third or more of the programs offered lab courses in person

Specifically the data showed that, for institutions

  • With fewer than 2000 students, 56% of the content was delivered face-to-face, 24% was delivered using a hybrid approach, and 20% was delivered remotely.

  • With 2000 to 5000 students, 49% of the content was delivered face-to-face, 39% was delivered using a hybrid approach, and 12% was delivered remotely.

  • With 5000 to 8000 students, 49% of the content was delivered face-to-face, 31% was delivered using a hybrid approach, and 20% was delivered remotely.

  • With 8000 to 10000 students, 28% of the content was delivered face-to-face, 47% was delivered using a hybrid approach, and 23% was delivered remotely.

  • With 10000 to 20000 students, 38% of the content was delivered face-to-face, 39% was delivered using a hybrid approach, and 22% was delivered remotely.

  • With 20000 to 40000 students, 36% of the content was delivered face-to-face, 40% was delivered using a hybrid approach, and 25% was delivered remotely.

  • With more than 40,000 students, 33% of the content was delivered face-to-face, 29% was delivered using a hybrid approach, and 36% was delivered remotely.
