INTELLECTUAL FREEDOM
Students have the right to a diverse school library collection representing all viewpoints. Minors’ First Amendment right to read and receive information and ideas is protected by the school librarian. The materials provided will be diverse and up-to-date to meet the needs of the students' school research and personal inquiries.
PRIVACY
Student privacy is essential to intellectual freedom in the library as it allows students to access and select information and ideas without the fear of judgment, punishment, or embarrassment. Students’ privacy is protected at Applegarth School. Reference questions, materials used in the library, and checked-out remain private unless there is a concern of harm from the student. This confidentiality is used for eBooks and online subscription resources. There are no records kept of materials checked out in the past.
COPYRIGHT
Plagiarism is copying someone else’s work and calling it your own. Students are taught techniques to avoid copyright infringement and plagiarism. Students are encouraged to ask questions if they are unsure of how to avoid breaking copyright laws.

CYBERBULLYING
Cyberbullying includes the use of the Internet, mobile phone, or other digital technologies to harm others. Cyberbullying takes place through email, instant messenger, chat rooms, websites, or gaming sites. It can also take place through digital messages or images sent to a mobile phone. Students are expected to act in accordance with the standards regarding bullying. Students should behave in ways that create a supportive learning environment. Cyberbullying will be reported to the administration immediately. School administrators will implement consequences for students who commit acts of cyberbullying.
