Vision Statement:
The vision of the Applegarth School Library Media Program is to offer an inclusive 21st-century learning environment promoting the effective use of information and technology, where students become intellectual lifelong learners and readers.
Mission Statement:
The mission of the Applegarth School Library Media Program is to provide a safe environment for students to engage with relevant and diverse print and electronic materials. The library will inspire individuals to express their intellectual curiosity and provide positive learning experiences, allowing students to achieve their maximum potential.
This is my 17th year teaching in the Monroe Township School District, but my first year at Applegarth School. I have taught Kindergarten for five years, and second grade for nine years, and this will be my third year as the Library Media Specialist. I graduated from Ramapo College with a degree in Psychology and Elementary Education. I have obtained my Master’s Degree in Elementary Education from Rutgers University and I am continuing my education at William Paterson University to receive my Master's Degree in Curriculum and Learning: School Library Media.
During my career, I have had the opportunity to attend a conference at the University of Virginia where I learned a great deal about differentiated instruction. I attended a weeklong institute on enrichment-based differentiated teaching at the University of Connecticut. I have also had the opportunity to participate in several conferences geared towards Media Specialists. I believe that each child learns differently and it is best to have a differentiated learning environment. I believe that students benefit most by learning in a healthy and safe environment in which students are capable of growing physically, intellectually, emotionally, and socially.
In my free time, I love to spend time with my family and friends. I love being outdoors! I enjoy traveling and trying new things. Some of my favorite places to visit are Europe, Disney World, Alaska, Costa Rica, and the Jersey Shore!
