Signs should be placed 12-24 inches from the path to avoid interference with mobility
Face signs perpendicular to the primary direction of travel
The sign should be within the primary viewing angle of the feature offset to the side or forward to avoid blocking view of the feature
Avoid facing signs directly east or west where morning/afternoon glare can make them unreadable
North or northeast-facing is generally preferred for readability
Install signs outside of the critical root and grow zone
Permanent signs should be installed in stable well compacted soil, mulch, grass
Avoid low-lying areas or depressions where water pools
Signs should be raised 4-6 inches off the ground if necessary
