What is AOK?
Alpha Omicron Kappa is a youth leadership organization for female high school students that was founded on the principles of academic excellence, community service, unity, and sisterhood.
What are the benefits of becoming a member of AOK?
There are so many benefits, but here are just a few. Alpha Omicron Kappa was founded on the principles of sisterhood, community service, academic excellence, and leadership development. As a member, you will cultivate friendships with other young ladies striving for excellence that can last a lifetime. You will also gain several helpful skills and experiences that will benefit you not only throughout high school, but throughout college and beyond. You will have the opportunity to participate in both group and individual community service that not only looks great on a résumé, but also gives you a competitive edge the colleges and employers look for in a candidate.
How can I join AOK?
Joining AOK begins with the first step in the intake process: the mandatory interest meeting. At the interest meeting, you will receive an application with instructions on the next steps.
When is AOK accepting applications?
AOK typically has intake in the spring. Follow our social media pages to stay informed on when our process will start.
How long is the intake process?
The intake process begins in the spring with an interest meeting and interview. We typically begin our sessions for those who are selected at the end of May or the beginning of June. We have sessions typically three times per week through August with the induction ceremony typically being at the end of August or the beginning of September.
Do I have to be enrolled in a public or private school in Tuscaloosa?
We accept young ladies enrolled in public or private schools, as well as those who are home-schooled. If you live outside of Tuscaloosa and want to join, we can accept you, but you must be aware and agree to our attendance policy during the intake process, as well as the attendance policy after being inducted. We want to ensure that all members get the very most from this experience and in order for that to happen, members have to be present.
How old do you have to be to join AOK?
AOK accepts young ladies who are in 8th-11th grade at the time of the interest meeting.
If I meet all the requirements specified on the website and at the interest meeting, do I automatically receive an invitation for membership?
No. After submitting a completed application, you will be contacted for an interview. After the interview, current members will then vote on the prospective candidates. The members who have a majority of “yes” votes will receive an invitation to complete the intake process.
