About Us

In 2006, Northport Kappa League tapped several ladies from the Tuscaloosa City and County high schools to form Kappa League Sweethearts. As Kappa League Sweethearts, their duties included assisting with fundraising, event promotion, hosting events, and community service. Due to the negative connotation associated with the term “Sweetheart,” the name was changed. These ladies went on to become the founding members of Alpha Omicron Kappa.

Alpha Omicron Kappa, Inc. was founded on January 6, 2007, in Tuscaloosa, AL under the advisement of Shamekia (Taylor) Macon of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, Jamesia (Bell) Floyd, and Amanda Grase of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, and Cheryl Taylor Cade of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated.

The founding AOK members were Kierra Davis, Tacarra (Jordan) Jones, BreNaja (Williams) Mobley, Meredith Harris, Courtney Elliott, Ahzshaka (Evans) Johnson, Shan’Quita Thomas, Kierra Prewitt, Briana (Bell) Morris, Courtney (Pickens) Stewart, Angelica Fields, Chastity (Robertson) Webb, Christy (Pickens) Crittenden, Tawanna (Franks) Brown, Brittany Hinton, Melché Britton, Lisa Harkness, Jasmine Christy, LaQuitha (Stewart) Essex, Brianna Bailey, Sade Hill, Brandi Stephney.
