When startled, dairy cattle can become frenetic and slip on wet barn floors. Consequently, it is important to not disturb them when conducting research.
When I visit pens to score bovine body condition and cleanliness, I sit still and let the animals come to me rather than traipsing through the barn (Figure 1).
