Yes, thereâs corruption and a real temptation to skip paying. But before you go ninja-mode with your hard-earned income, consider this:
Taxes do help build stuff: roads, schools, hospitals, things you might use or need.
The BIR is hunting online earners now, especially freelancers making real money. Donât be next.
Tax docs = legit you: banks, loan officers, consulates, they all want to see receipts and COR (Certificate of Registration).
Treat paying taxes like insurance: hindi mo feel ngayon, pero safe ka later.
If youâre a Filipino self-employed online worker, you must register.
That means filling out BIR Form 1901 (for self-employed or mixed-income earners).Â
Make sure you have:
TIN (Tax ID) from employer or apply via BIR using Form 1901Â
Valid ID (passport, driverâs license, UMID), original + photocopy
Proof of address (barangay cert, lease, etc.)Â
PSA certificate (birth, marriage if applicable)Â
OTR/Barangay cert/Mayorâs permit, to prove youâre working from homeÂ
General journal book (you record your income and expenses in this)
Photocopies of all the above
Fill out BIR Form 1901 + Form 0605 (â±500 reg fee, â±30 documentary stamp).
Submit at your RDO (pay via bank, GCash, or Landbank LinkBiz)
OPTIONAL: Use ORUS (BIR e-registration) if your RDO supports it
Youâll get BIR Form 2303 (COR), your freelance businessâs legit IDÂ
Then:
Register Books of Accounts (ledgers, journals)
Apply for Authority to Print (ATP/1906) to issue invoices/receipts
For earnings †â±3M/year, pick either:
â
8% Flat Gross Receipts Tax
â

Choose wiselyâyour Form 1901 selection is locked for the year
Quarterly posting:
Form 1701Q (8% or graduated income)
Form 2551Q (percentage tax, if applicable)Â
Annual filing:
Form 1701 (for graduated) or 1701A (for 8%)
Pay online through GCash, bancos, Taxumo, etc.
Protip: use BIR eForms (downloadable), validate, submit by email, pay via mobile â so madali.
Renew COR yearly
Update Books & Receipts every 5 years
File Form 1905 when you change marital status, RDO, or business scale
âCloseâ with BIR if ever mag-stop ka na
Not glamorous. Not fun. Masakit sa loob, I know, kasi ang hirap minsan mahalin ng Pinas. Pero friend, it pays to stay legit. It opens doors:
Loan? passport? client who demands legit receipts?
With COR and paid taxes, you're untouchable.
May tanong ka pa don? Sagot ko yan, walang judgement. đ
