Principal Investigator 

Anurag Goyal 

Assistant Professor and Class of '66 Chair, Mechanical Engineering, IIT Delhi

Anurag joined as an assistant professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at IIT Delhi in June 2021. Prior to joining IITD, he was a researcher in the Building Energy Sciences group at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) (2019-2021). His research at NREL focused on the design and characterization of thermal energy storage components for buildings. During his PhD, he worked with Dr. Srinivas Garimella in the Sustainable Thermal Systems Laboratory (STSL) at Georgia Tech (2012-18). His graduate research focused on understanding the dynamics and developing control systems for small-capacity, heat-driven absorption cooling systems. He completed his undergraduate in mechanical engineering from IIT Delhi (2008-12).

Ananthakrishnan K

PhD Student (August 2021 - Present), PMRF Awardee 

Project: Membrane-based air-conditioning systems for enhanced energy efficiency

Anantha completed his B.Tech in mechanical engineering from NIT Calicut in 2016. After that, he worked as a Management Trainee at Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited. He then completed his M.Tech in mechanical engineering, specializing in thermal and fluid engineering at IIT (BHU), Varanasi, in 2021.

His research interests are in the areas of building energy efficiency, renewable energy systems, radiative cooling systems, and modeling turbulent and multiphase fluid flow.

In his free time, he enjoys cooking, playing the violin, and playing cricket.

Ritwik Kumar

PhD Student (July 2023 - Present)

Project: Thermal energy storage systems for buildings 

Ritwik completed his B.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering from Tezpur University, where his final year project was to study how used cooking oil blends impact the performance of a diesel engine. He completed his Master's in Thermal Engineering from NIT Durgapur in 2021. His M.Tech. research focused on using CFD to analyze the flow patterns and heat transfer characteristics around a pair of anti-symmetrically heated cylinders within a closed cavity. 

Ritwik plays tennis in his spare time and has a fondness for stop-motion animated movies.

Vaibhav Kumar

PhD Student (July 2026 - Present)

Project: Advanced thermal energy storage technologies for next-generation heating and cooling systems 

Vaibhav completed his M.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering from IIT Ropar and joined IIT Delhi for his PhD.

Ashutosh Mishra

Master of Science (MS - Research) Student (July 2025 - Present)

Project: Phase-change thermal energy storage systems for HVAC applications

Ashutosh completed his B.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering from Manipal University, Jaipur, in 2021, where his final year project was to study the performance enhancement of solar stills using thermal energy storage materials.  After that, he worked as a production engineer at Bosch Ltd. Later on, in 2022, he joined Pluss Advanced Technologies Ltd. as an R&D engineer working in the field of thermal energy storage materials. He worked at TSRG from May 2024 - July 2025 as a project associate too.

In his free time, he enjoys cooking and watching movies.
