Thermal Systems Research Group
Thermo-fluid Systems | Building Energy Efficiency | Clean Energy and Water
The Thermal Systems Research Group (TSRG) is part of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at IIT Delhi. Our research focuses on developing innovative and practical solutions to improve the utilization of thermal energy in our built environment. Thermal energy constitutes a major fraction of all energy conversion and utilization processes. Consequently, it is also one of the major contributors to overall carbon emissions. Our research, driven by the fundamental understanding of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and heat and mass transfer, is founded on the belief that many of the existing thermal processes around us can be revolutionized to achieve significantly lower emissions and enable rapid adoption of renewable and clean power sources. We use first-principles based modeling and detailed experiments to develop new concepts for the following applications.
Heating, ventilation, air-conditioning, and refrigeration (HVAC&R)
Thermal energy storage technologies
Heat recovery in industrial processes
Control of thermo-fluid systems
Water purification and desalination
Sustainable buildings and communities
Check out our Research page to learn more about the ongoing projects in the lab.
We are looking for motivated PhD/Master's students to work on exciting problems in thermal sciences. Feel free to reach out at agoyal@mech.iitd.ac.in with your CV and a brief statement (~100-200 words) describing your interests in any of the abovementioned areas.
