Educational Interventions Coordinated by Dr Anurag Deep | UNESCO MGIEP

Dr Anurag Deep coordinates the design, development, and deployment of practical, innovative learning interventions, leveraging expertise in educational technology, capacity development, and research strategy to empower learners globally. His expertise spans Project Strategy & Planning, Program Communication, Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E), and Partnership Building.

He has actively contributed to educational interventions customised to suit a diverse audience, ranging from school students to university students and professionals. These interventions cover various themes, including Education for Sustainable Development (ESD), Media & Information Literacy (MIL), Biology Education Research (BER), and Environmental Education.

This page presents an overview of educational projects either conceptualised, designed, or coordinated by him, across three interconnected levels of intervention: Macro, Meso, and Micro. Together, these initiatives demonstrate how policy-level frameworks and learner-centred education can work in alignment to translate knowledge into meaningful, sustainable action.

Macro initiatives shape the policy and vision → Meso projects translate frameworks into institutional and community action → Micro courses empower individual learners with knowledge, skills, and agency.

Together, these interventions demonstrate a coherent educational ecosystem where policy, practice, and pedagogy reinforce one another.

Navigating Climate Information with Media and Information Literacy

In an era where climate disinformation spreads rapidly and shapes public perception, strengthening people’s ability to critically evaluate information is more vital than ever. In response to these growing challenges, UNESCO and MGIEP developed a free online course, “Navigating Climate Information with Media and Information Literacy.” This interactive, multimedia course builds essential MIL competencies, enabling learners to identify misleading content, evaluate credible sources, and contribute to inclusive, evidence-based climate dialogue. The course is jointly certified by UNESCO and MGIEP and is currently available in English.

Climate Change: Understand, Reflect, Empathize and Act

The Climate Change course is the first to integrate emotion with cognition. It builds knowledge of key climate change concepts like carbon footprint and international treaties. It focuses on building skills such as self-awareness, emotional regulation, critical inquiry, perspective-taking, and compassion. It is ready to use as a stand-alone course or as an additional resource for teachers and learners to learn about climate change and take behavioral actions for change.

Biodiversity and Human Well-being

The course enables learners to acquire critical perspectives on biodiversity and human well-being and gain the social and emotional competencies to facilitate biodiversity conservation efforts. Some concepts in focus are natural capital, inclusive wealth, ecosystem services, and dragons of inaction. The course goes beyond promoting a purely rational and conceptual understanding of biodiversity and enables learners to relate to the global issue personally and emotionally, thus inspiring action.

Media Literacy in the Digital Age

The online course on Media Literacy is self-directed, learner-driven, interactive, and rendered on the UNESCO MGIEP’s digital platform- FramerSpace. By incorporating interactive pedagogies, participants deeply understand media literacy and recognize its significance in our daily lives and society. The course is assessed through reflective questions and practical projects. The practical projects include analyzing and evaluating existing media messages and creating media messages.

Designing Learner-centric E-learning in STEM Disciplines

This course focuses on learner-centric principles and practices in the design of e-learning in STEM disciplines. Effective strategies and processes are discussed in the course based on research from the learning sciences and educational technology. Course participants explore the application of e-learning design in various STEM topics in K-12 and higher education. The course exposes participants to examples of basic and advanced technologies in designing e-learning.

Geneticus Investigatio

Solving problems in science domains requires learners to integrate concepts across topics, along with problem-solving and inquiry process skills. The complexity of these concepts and skills becomes manifold at the tertiary undergraduate level and is known to be challenging for learners. To support learners in this process, we designed and developed GI, a technology-enhanced learning environment for semi-structured problems in the context of Mendelian genetics. The pedagogy requires learners to go through inquiry-based reflective learning experiences in the learning environment.
