The Algebra and Number Theory Meeting at UERJ (ANTM-UERJ) is a scientific initiative aimed at promoting research and academic collaboration in algebra, number theory, arithmetic geometry, and closely related areas of mathematics.
The meeting is conceived as a forum for researchers working in different but interconnected branches of mathematics, encouraging the exchange of ideas, methods, and perspectives across traditional disciplinary boundaries.
By bringing together established mathematicians, early-career researchers, and graduate students, ANTM-UERJ seeks to strengthen scientific interaction and contribute to the development of new academic collaborations between Brazilian and international research institutions.
The first edition is hosted by the Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro (UERJ) and is organized in celebration of the birthday of Professor Amílcar Pacheco.
Algebra and number theory occupy a central position in contemporary mathematical research. Their interactions with algebraic geometry, arithmetic geometry, and other mathematical disciplines have led to important advances and continue to generate fundamental questions.
The scientific scope of ANTM-UERJ encompasses a broad range of subjects in these areas, including:
Algebraic and arithmetic number theory
Arithmetic and Diophantine geometry
Elliptic curves and abelian varieties
Algebraic curves and rational points
Diophantine equations and rational solutions
Commutative algebra and algebraic geometry
Galois theory and arithmetic representations
Finite fields and related algebraic structures
Modular and automorphic methods in number theory
Explicit and computational approaches to arithmetic problems
The meeting particularly encourages interactions between these subjects, with an emphasis on mathematical questions, techniques, and developments that connect algebraic structures with arithmetic and geometric phenomena.
The scientific program brings together researchers with diverse mathematical backgrounds, offering participants opportunities to discover new approaches and explore connections between different research directions.
The principal objectives of ANTM-UERJ are to promote the dissemination of mathematical research, encourage the exchange of scientific ideas, and facilitate productive interactions among researchers at different stages of their academic careers.
The meeting also aims to strengthen international cooperation, enhance the visibility of mathematical research at UERJ, and provide opportunities for students and early-career mathematicians to engage with an active international research community.
Through invited lectures, research discussions, poster presentations, and short talks, the event seeks to create an open and collegial environment for scientific communication.
The inaugural meeting has been organized on the occasion of the birthday of Professor Amílcar Pacheco.
This special edition offers an opportunity to celebrate his academic career in the company of colleagues, collaborators, and friends.
The meeting will include a birthday celebration and dinner on October 27, followed by a concluding session honoring Professor Pacheco on October 29.
We hope that this first edition will also establish a foundation for future scientific meetings and continued collaboration among the participating researchers.
